Carolina Tapia-Urzua

Carolina Tapia-Urzua’s drip painting abstracts find their roots in the works of Jackson Pollock. Pollock largely originated drip painting & used this form of painting almost exclusively, using such unconventional tools as sticks, hardened brushes & even basting syringes.

Carolina became fascinated with his style when she was 20 years old, & she particularly enjoys liquid acrylics, which she drips directly from the tube onto plexiglass, canvas, acrylic paper, etc.

Her inspiration comes from colors, shapes, nature, thoughts, dreams, emotions & especially movement that flows around her from the ocean & city life. As a native of Chile who lived in California for half of her life, where the Pacific Ocean was her main connection between these two dearly loved places. Now that she’s in Pittsburgh, her new inspiration comes from the forests & the changing seasons, especially the beautiful colors that come with the changing of the trees in the fall.
